Two Stories One House Salem
The Mullins House
Built in 1918 and expanded in 1928, the Mullins House has been a part of Salem's story for more than a century. With its grand rooms, original woodwork, servant's quarters, library, and countless architectural details, the home reflects an era when houses were built to last and designed to be lived in for generations.
Like many historic homes, its walls hold stories we may never fully know. Over the years, families celebrated holidays, raised children, welcomed friends, and created memories within these rooms. As we've begun our own journey here, we've uncovered traces of those who came before us through photographs, handwritten notes, forgotten treasures, and stories shared by former owners and members of the community.
Today, our goal is to honor the home's history while thoughtfully preparing it for its next century. Every project, every restoration decision, and every unexpected discovery becomes part of the ongoing story of the Mullins House.
This isn't just a renovation. It's the continuation of a legacy.
Meet the Owners
Hi, we're Karan and Scott.
Like many great stories, ours started with a conversation, a glass of wine, and a little bit of unexpected timing. Together, we've taken on one of our biggest adventures yet: becoming the caretakers of the historic Mullins House in Salem, Ohio.
Karan is a writer, storyteller, and organizational change consultant who has spent her career helping people navigate transformation. Scott is the owner of The OG, a local restaurant and gathering place built on good food, great drinks, and strong community connections.
While neither of us set out looking for a century-old house, we quickly fell in love with its character, history, and endless possibilities. We see ourselves less as owners and more as stewards, preserving the stories that came before us while creating new ones of our own.
Through Two Stories One House, we're sharing the renovations, discoveries, design decisions, family history, and everyday moments that come with breathing new life into an old home. Some days will be about restoration. Some will be about community. And some will simply be about the beautiful, messy process of building a life together.
